Permission: Can view permissions settings page
Skimmer lets you fully customize feature access for every employee, on both the web and the mobile app, so you can shape the software around how your company works instead of forcing everyone into a generic role. Roles are managed from Settings > Roles & Permissions, which lists your Default Roles and Custom Roles side by side, along with how many users and permissions each one has.
View a Role's Permissions
Check exactly what a role can and can't do before assigning it to anyone.
Go to Settings > Roles & Permissions.
Find the role in the Default Roles or Custom Roles table.
Click the eye icon to open View Role Permissions.
This shows the role's description, its full permission breakdown by category (for example Customers, Route Assignments, Work Orders, Invoices), and a running Permissions Enabled total. For a custom role, it also shows the Role Template it was built from and whether Auto-update permissions is ON or OFF.
Duplicate a Role
Default roles can't be edited directly, so duplicate one—default or custom—as a starting point when you want a role that's close to an existing one but not identical.
Go to Settings > Roles & Permissions.
Find the role you want to copy:
For a default role, click the duplicate icon next to it.
For a custom role, click the actions menu icon next to the eye icon and select Duplicate.
This opens Create Role with Role Template set to the role you copied, Role Name pre-filled as "[Role] Copy," and the description and all permissions carried over from that role.
Give the new role a unique Role Name—no two roles can share a name—and adjust the description or permissions as needed.
Click Save.
Add a Custom Role
Create a custom role when none of the default roles match the access you need.
Go to Settings > Roles & Permissions.
In the Custom Roles section, click + Add.
On the Create Role page, optionally choose a Role Template to start from an existing role's permissions, or leave it blank to start from scratch. Enter a Role Name and Description.
Decide whether to keep Keep this role updated with new <role> permissions checked. When checked, this role automatically receives new permissions Skimmer adds in the future, using the default settings from the role template. When unchecked, you'll need to manually turn on any new permissions yourself.
Under Customize Permissions, check the individual permissions this role should have, grouped by category—Customers, Route Assignments, Work Orders, Quotes, Jobs, Invoices, Payments, Billing Reports, Shopping List, Service Notes & Issues, Broadcast Emails, Reports, Settings, Integrations, Account, Mobile, AI Phone, Bookkeeping, and Marketing. Use Select All to grant every permission in a category at once, or Expand All / Collapse All to review everything together. The Permissions Enabled panel on the right keeps a running total.
Click Save.
Edit a Custom Role
Adjust a custom role's permissions any time your team's responsibilities change.
Go to Settings > Roles & Permissions.
In the Custom Roles table, click the actions menu icon next to the eye icon and select Edit (or open View Role Permissions and click Edit).
Update the role name, description, permissions, or the auto-update setting.
Click Save.
Delete a Custom Role
Remove a custom role you no longer need. You can't delete a role that's currently assigned to a user—reassign those users first.
Go to Settings > Roles & Permissions.
In the Custom Roles table, click the actions menu icon next to the eye icon and select Delete (or open View Role Permissions and click Delete).
Assign a Role to a User
See the Add, edit, or deactivate a user article for information on adding a role to a user.
