Tiers: All
Note: Some Checklist Template options require the Scaling Up or Enterprise tier.
This is step 3 of setting up service types. A service type defines the work done at a stop: its checklist and the readings and dosages techs see. If you built checklist templates in Building checklist templates, you add them to your service types here. You can also add items directly to a service type or start from a copy of one you already have.
A new service type doesn’t change anything for your techs until you assign it to a body of water, so you can build and review at your own pace. Edits to a service type that’s already assigned, like Routine Service, reach your techs at their next stop.
Tips & tricks
Start from an existing service type - duplicate a service type that's close to what you need instead of starting from a blank page.
Set things up on the service type - change a single body of water only for true exceptions. That keeps updates simple.
Keep body of water and service type names separate - the body of water Name field is what your techs call the body of water, like Spa. There’s no need to add the service type to the body of water Name field.
Avoid duplicate types - before you add a body of water type, check whether one already exists under a similar name, like Spa and Spa/Hot Tub.
Switching service types restarts schedules - when you move a body of water to a different service type, its recurring items start their schedule over.
Ride along first - watch one stop on the new service type before you roll it out to every tech.
Create service types
From the left navigation menu, click Settings.
Under Settings, click Service Types.
On the Service Types tab, click Add Service Type to open the Add Service Type page.
From the Add Service Type page, fill out the following sections: Basic Info, Checklist, Readings, Dosages.
Basic Info section
The Basic Info section names and describes the service type. The name is how you pick the service type when you assign it to a body of water. The description is for internal notes your office team can reference. You can also add a note to customers that shows in their service email and customer portal.
Add the following information:
Service Type Name - enter a name for the service type, like Full Service or Chem Only.
Service Type Description - add internal notes about the service type.
Note to Customer - shows in the customer’s service email and customer portal for each body of water on this service type. You can add up to 250 characters.
Checklist section
Skimmer lets you build a new checklist directly in the Add Service Type page, use an existing checklist template, or both. If you use a checklist template, you have the option to copy the template and change it as needed or to sync the template with the service type so that any changes to the checklist template flow to the service type.
To add an existing template or new template:
Click Add from a Template at the bottom of the checklist card.
Choose how the template's items should work:
Keep items in sync - the items stay linked to the template. When you edit the template, every service type that uses it updates. To change the items for just one service type later, you can detach the section.
Copy items to customize - the items are copied into this service type one time. Edits to the template don't change this copy.
The Which Checklist Template? window gives you the option to select an existing template or add a new template:
To select an existing template, click the radio button next to the template name and click Next.
To create a new template, click Add Template and use the Add Checklist Template window to create and Save the template.
To add items directly to a service type:
To add an item that only this service type needs, click Add Checklist Item and fill in the item's details. See the Build Checklist Templates article for more details.
To group items under your own heading, click Add Checklist Section, enter a Section Name, and click Add Section. The section name shows as a header on your tech's phone.
To change a synced template for just this service type:
When a template is synced, its items match the template everywhere it's used. To change those items for just this service type, detach the section.
On the service type, click Detach on the synced section.
Click Detach from Template to confirm.
Edit the items, then click Save.
The section becomes this service type's own copy. The template and the other service types that use it don't change.
Readings and Dosages sections
Your Readings & Dosages settings (Settings > Readings & Dosages) stay your master list. In these sections, you choose which of those readings and dosages techs see for each body of water on this service type. For example, a spa service type can show only spa readings, and a water feature can skip pool chemistry entirely.
Under Readings and Dosages, switch on the ones you want techs to see for this service type. Switch off the rest.
Save your service type
When you’ve completed and reviewed your new service type including its checklist, readings, and dosages, click Save.
Start from an existing service type
To build a service type that's close to one you already have, duplicate it instead of starting from scratch. You can also duplicate an archived service type.
On the Service Types tab, click the action menu next to the service type.
Click Duplicate. The Add Service Type page opens with a copy of its name, description, Note to Customer, checklist, readings, and dosages.
Change what's different, then click Save. Nothing is created until you save.
When your service types are ready, Add Service Types to Bodies of Water.
