Account Credits let you collect money from a customer without applying it to a specific invoice right away. The funds sit on the customer’s account and can be applied later to existing or future invoices.
🤔 When Would I Use an Account Credit?
Common reasons:
A customer wants to prepay for future services
They send a lump sum to cover multiple invoices
You need flexibility in how the payment is applied
The result? The money sits as a Credit Balance until you use it.
➕ How to Add an Account Credit
Option 1: From the Customer Profile (Most Common)
Open the Customer Profile
In Billing History, click Add Payment
In the dropdown, select Account Credit
Enter:
Amount
Date (if needed)
Payment method (Cash, Check, Online Payment, etc.)
Optional memo (ex: “Payment for upcoming invoices”)
Click Save
The Credit Balance will update immediately.
Option 2: From the Payments Screen
Go to Billing → Payments
Click Add Payment
Select the Customer
Choose Account Credit
Enter details and click Save
Same result — the credit is added to their account.
🧾 How to Apply Credit to an Existing Invoice
Open the invoice.
In the Payments box, click Add.
Under Method, choose Applied Credit.
Adjust the amount (cannot exceed available credit).
Click Add Payment.
The invoice balance and Credit Balance will update.
⚡ What Happens With New Invoices?
This next part is very important to understand. If a customer has available credit and you:
Save and Send an invoice
Or Save and Mark as Sent
Skimmer will automatically apply available credit to that invoice.
It will pay the invoice in full if enough credit exists.
Or partially apply credit if the balance is higher.
This also works when:
Sending invoices in bulk
Using the Invoice Generator
As long as there’s credit available, it will apply automatically when the invoice is sent. There is no way to turn this off at this time.
✅ Quick Summary
Add money as an Account Credit when you don’t want it tied to one invoice yet.
Apply it manually to invoices — or let Skimmer apply it automatically when new invoices are sent.
Credit cannot exceed the available balance.
