Updating Passwords: Skimmer’s Current Security Requirements

Skimmer regularly reviews and updates the security standards used to protect your account and customer data. As part of those ongoing improvements, some existing passwords no longer meet our current password-strength requirements.

If you received an email or in-app notification about updating a password, this article explains what’s changing, who is affected, and how to complete the update.

What’s happening?

We identified a subset of user accounts with critically vulnerable passwords that do not meet our password standards.

Affected users will need to update their password before May 12, 2026.

If a password is not updated before that date:

  • Skimmer will automatically reset the password

  • The user will not be able to log in until a new password is created

  • No account data, settings, or permissions will be lost

This update only affects passwords that do not meet current security standards.

Who needs to take action?

Owners and Admins

If you received an email from Skimmer listing affected users at your company, action is required for those users.

You can either:

  • Manually update credentials via the Skimmer website, then notify each team member of their new login details.

  • Instruct users to initiate their own password resets through the browser or their mobile application.

End Users

If you received an in-app banner or email requesting a password update, you’ll need to reset your password before May 12, 2026.

Password Reset Options

Owners and user roles with access to the Users page

Can update:

  • Their own password

  • Passwords for any user on the team

To update a password:

  1. Log into the Skimmer website

  2. Go to Settings

  3. Select Users

  4. Select the user you want to update

  5. Enter a new password on the right side of the screen

  6. Click Save in the password section

Important: If you reset another user’s password, you must provide that user with their new password so they can log in successfully.

Technicians or users without access to the Users page

Users who do not have access to the Users page must reset their password using the Forgot Password option from the mobile app login screen.

To reset your password:

  1. Open the Skimmer mobile app

  2. Navigate to the login screen

  3. Select Forgot Password

  4. Enter either:

    • Your username, or

    • The email address associated with your account

  5. Follow the instructions sent by email

Why didn’t I receive a password reset email?

Password reset emails are sent only to the email address associated with your Skimmer username
.

You may not receive the email if:

  • Your username was entered incorrectly

  • Your email address was entered incorrectly

  • The email address entered is not associated with your username

  • Your account is tied to an email address you do not have access to

Example:

  • The email address entered in the user's profile will receive the password reset link. In this example, a password reset request will be sent to [email protected].

  • If the user with [email protected] as their email address on file requests a password reset but enters the wrong email or username, they will not receive the password reset email.

If you run into any issues:

  • Verify the username or email address you sent the request to is correct

  • Make sure you are checking the correct inbox

  • Check your spam or junk folder

If you still don't receive the email, please contact your company owner or administrator for assistance.

What happens on May 12, 2026?

Any affected account that has not updated its password by May 12, 2026, will have its password reset automatically by Skimmer.

The next time that user attempts to sign in, they will need to:

  1. Select Forgot Password

  2. Create a new password

  3. Log back into their account

No other account settings, permissions, or customer data will be affected.

What makes a password meet current requirements?

Our current password requirements include:

  • Minimum password length requirements

  • A mix of character types

  • Checks against commonly used or insecure passwords

Most modern password managers can generate passwords that meet these requirements automatically.
