If you’re seeing chemical line items on your invoices and weren’t expecting them, it usually comes down to how the customer’s Service Rate is set up and/or how your Dosages are set up.
⚙️ Before You Start: Understanding Service Rate Types
Each customer’s service rate determines how chemicals are handled:
With Chemicals: Chemical dosages are included in the service rate if your dosages are set up to be included with the service.
Plus Chemicals: Chemical dosages are always billed
If you see chemical charges on invoices, the customer is likely set to "Plus Chemicals" or you haven't updated your dosages to be included with the services you perform.
✅ How to Adjust Chemical Billing
Step 1: Check the Customer’s Service Rate
Go to Customers → Service Rates
Locate the customer
Under Rate Type, review the selected option
Step 2: If the Customer Is “With Chemicals”
If their rate type is Per Stop/Month With Chemicals, you’ll also need to confirm chemical settings:
Go to Settings → Readings & Dosages
Click the Edit icon next to each chemical
Check the box labeled Can include with service
Click Save
Repeat this process for each chemical you want to include in the service rate.
Inputting Chemical Costs
To represent the internal cost of a chemical in Skimmer:
Navigate to the Settings section of the application.
Locate the chemical for which you want to input the cost.
Enter the cost per unit of measure (UOM) in the Cost/UOM field. For example, if the cost is $2.50 per pound, input
2.50and set the unit to pounds (lb). This ensures accurate cost tracking for the chemical.
Note: If there are any chemicals you want to charge for separately, leave the "Can include with service" box unchecked. When unchecked, the chemical is treated as a separate billable item and will appear as charges on the invoices when used. If checked, the chemical is treated as included with the service and is not billed separately.
Step 3: If the Customer Is “Plus Chemicals”
If the rate type is Plus Chemicals, chemical costs will always apply in addition to the service rate, regardless of chemical dosage settings.
